BREAST LIFT

WHAT IS A BREAST LIFT?

A breast lift reshapes and raises the sagging breast without altering the overall volume of the breast.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW?

A breast lift can also be used to reduce the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple).

WHAT DOES THE PROCEDURE INVOLVE?

Breast lifts are typically performed under general anesthetic and usually take about two to three hours. An incision is made around the areola (it may have to be extended down), and excess breast skin is stretched and meticulously removed. The breast skin is then sutured to the areola in its new, elevated position. The area is bandaged, and most patients stay in the recovery room for two to four hours before being released to go home.

HOW LONG IS RECOVERY AND WHEN CAN I RESUME MY NORMAL ACTIVITIES?

Bruising and swelling can last two to three weeks and, in some cases, subtle swelling lasts up to three months. Heavy lifting and exertion is prohibited for the first three weeks following surgery. Most patients return to work within a week of surgery. Expect to begin light cardio within seven days and moderate to intense physical activity (including strength training) three weeks after surgery.
